Amos 3:12-4:5 ❖ 2 Peter 3:1-10 ❖ Matthew 21:23-32
In the parable of the two sons – “A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented and went. And he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.” Matthew 21:28-30.
Where do I fit into this parable? How authentic is my faith? Am I the first son, or the second son?
I like to think of myself as faithful and for always doing as I am told to do. But sometimes, that stubbornness, that small streak of rebellion rises up and I can see myself in both sons.
In this advent season, as we await the coming of Jesus, I pray I’m like the third son (if there was one) that will immediately respond with an enthusiastic yes, and follow through immediately, when the Father asks.

En la parábola de los dos hijos: «Un hombre tenía dos hijos; y se acercó al primero y le dijo: Hijo, ve hoy a trabajar en mi viña. Él respondió y dijo: No quiero; pero después se arrepintió y fue. Y se acercó al segundo y le dijo lo mismo. Y él respondió y dijo: Sí, señor; pero no fue». Mateo 21:28-30.
¿Dónde encajo yo en esta parábola? ¿Hasta qué punto es auténtica mi fe? ¿Soy el primer hijo o el segundo?
Me gusta pensar que soy fiel y que siempre hago lo que se me dice. Pero a veces, esa terquedad, esa pequeña vena rebelde, sale a la luz y me veo reflejada en ambos hijos.
En este tiempo de Adviento, mientras esperamos la llegada de Jesús, rezo para ser como el tercer hijo (si lo hubiera) que responde inmediatamente con un sí y cumple de inmediato cuando el padre se lo pide.
