Our world has a belonging problem.
Around the world migrants become people of no nation, no security, no place to belong.
Right here, intolerance and judgment from outside and anxiety from within isolate us.
We human beings yearn to belong. And belonging is the unending gift of Christmas.
Mary, a young woman pregnant at the wrong time in her journey toward marriage… Joseph, whose betrothed’s pregnancy points to betrayal… These two faced the loss of their places in their ordered worlds. Once born, their child would be shuttled from place to place as his parents escaped the threat of violence.
They had no place to belong, yet these three become the ground of our homecoming.
The child’s birth gives belonging to all.
You can read it in his names. Jesus. Emmanuel. Salvation. Company with God.
This gift is for you. You belong.
“If you belong to Christ, you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.”
Holy Lifegiver, in whose love we come home, let us be Jesus’ siblings, so that we will belong with you forever. Amen.

Nuestro mundo tiene un problema de pertenencia.
En todo el mundo los migrantes se convierten en personas sin nación, sin seguridad, sin lugar al qué pertenecer.
Aquí mismo, la intolerancia y el juicio desde fuera y la ansiedad desde dentro nos aíslan.
Los seres humanos anhelamos pertenecer. Y la pertenencia es el regalo interminable de la Navidad.
María, una joven embarazada en el momento equivocado en su camino hacia el matrimonio… José, cuyo embarazo de su prometida apunta a una traición… Estos dos enfrentaron la pérdida de sus lugares en sus mundos ordenados. Una vez nacido, su hijo sería trasladado de un lugar a otro mientras sus padres escapaban de la amenaza de violencia.
No tenían un lugar al qué pertenecer, sin embargo, estos tres se convierten en el terreno de nuestro regreso a casa. El nacimiento del niño da la pertenencia a todos.
Puedes leerlo en sus nombres. Jesús. Emanuel. Salvación. Compañía con Dios.
Este regalo es para ti. Tú perteneces.
“Si sois de Cristo, sois linaje de Abraham, herederos según la promesa”.
Santo Dador de vida, en cuyo amor volvemos a casa, seamos hermanos de Jesús, para que seamos tuyos para siempre. Amén.
