For the last three years, I have participated in a month-long residency program at Ghost Ranch near Abiquiu, New Mexico. Living together in close quarters with seven other artists for 28 days made for a close-knit community. I often found myself awake early, venturing outside into the darkness, attuned to the silence of my solitude even as I was aware of the presence of the sleeping members of my artist community nearby. This painting reflects that experience of solitude within a much-beloved community.
