“Reflecting on this Night series of oil paintings on prepared paper and considering this year’s theme of belonging, I am reminded of how paradox is often our partner in creative pursuits. These images depict my time during an October residency in New Mexico. Awake both early and late, I often ventured outside into the darkness for an experience of “night” which was intimate and solitary. Even in my aloneness, I felt a sense of companionship in that quiet, velvety space outside the door of my casita. The silence felt comforting and welcoming – even restful, a complement to the brightness of the days.“
