Christina Allen
Every leaf is every other leaf
And twig and root and bough
Do live the life of an-other
Then and hence and now.
Every leaf is drinking
The wine of every seed
And sunbeams daily shedding grace
Fulfill a tree-ish need.
Every leaf is eating
The bread that was the tree
And though a leaf is falling
It finds eternity.
Every leaf is breathing
A mighty livening wind
Un-be-knowing where it’s from
Gently does it bend.
Every leaf is giving
Itself to unity
Withholding nothing nor in lack
Life is in the tree.
