“Before the pandemic, I crisscrossed the country for my fundraising position at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Many of my sketches were from travels, but during the pandemic I was unable to travel. Still feeling the itch to draw, I virtually revisited her home church, Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas, and sketched six different vignettes of her childhood parish.
“This image — Palmer’s famous bell tower — I sketched from a Google image on my iPad while in my backyard in Pittsburgh. In our 2020 world of virtual church, a virtual en plein air moment seemed fitting as we all worked to find peace and spiritual fulfillment in a time of upheaval.”
