Isaiah 43:8-13 1 Peter 1:3-9 John 14:1-7
On this day of the longest evening of the year, we celebrate the Apostle Thomas. He is the Apostle of the Long Evening before the Bright Dawn of the Lord’s return. This Advent we say with Thomas, “Lord, we do not know the way.” And we receive with him the answer from the Lord: “I am the way and the truth and the life.” From now on, we do know the Lord, and knowing him, we find his way of the cross none other than the way of life and peace. As we await the dayspring from on high, we will not let our hearts be troubled, for now, together with Thomas, we are the Lord’s witnesses. Thomas saw and believed and we, although we have not seen him, love him, and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy. For we have been given a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and are also heirs of an inheritance kept in heaven, a salvation to be revealed in the last day.
Blessed God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, you have kept in heaven a salvation to be revealed in the last time, so fill our hearts with a vision of your Christ, that we, rejoicing with an indescribable and glorious joy, may not be troubled, but in all things may we be his witnesses, through the same, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
