One of my favorite films is a musical called The Music Man. There is a great stir in River City, Iowa when the Wells Fargo wagon comes to town. As the horse-drawn wagon enters Main Street, folks flock to the excitement; they drop whatever they’re doing and move toward the wagon. One by one, they line Main Street.
The air is festive and just right for the famous song to begin: Oh-ho the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin’ down the street, oh please let it be for me…
Orders placed long ago fill the wagon; and now, everyone is waiting for something especially for them. They expect something wonderful.
Jesus begins his final entry into Jerusalem. Matthew describes the scene: A large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from trees and spread them on the road. As Jesus moved, crowds went before him and after him shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
Everyone who has come to this parade expects something especially for them.
Today, as you walk toward the manger, what do you expect?
Gracious God,
As we race toward tomorrow, may our souls be rooted in expectancy; this we ask through Christ. Amen.
Una de mis películas favoritas es un musical llamado The Music Man. Hay un gran revuelo en River City, Iowa, cuando la camioneta de Wells Fargo llega a la ciudad. Cuando la carreta que va jalada por caballos entra en Main Street, la gente acude en multitud a la celebraciὁn; dejan lo que estén haciendo y avanzan hacia la carreta. Uno por uno, se alinean en Main Street.
El ambiente es festivo y justo para que comience la famosa canción: Oh-ho, el vagón de Wells Fargo viene por la calle, oh, por favor, que sea para mí…
Los pedidos hace mucho tiempo llenan el vagón; y ahora todos esperan algo especialmente para ellos. Esperan algo maravilloso.
Jesús comienza su entrada definitiva a Jerusalén. Mateo describe la escena: Una gran multitud extendía sus mantos en el camino, y otros cortaban ramas de los árboles y las tendían en el camino. Mientras Jesús se movía, la multitud iba delante y detrás de él gritando:
“¡Hosana al Hijo de David! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor! ¡Hosana en las alturas!”
Todos los que han venido a este desfile esperan algo especial para ellos.
Hoy, al caminar hacia el pesebre, ¿qué esperas?
Dios misericordioso, mientras corremos hacia el mañana, que nuestras almas estén arraigadas en la expectativa. Esto te lo pedimos por Cristo. Amén.
