Marilyn Zwicker
I missed it this morning
That moment
When night dies to day
The East is steadily brighter
As all stars disappear
I can see the house
Next door
I sit planning my day
Wondering what
A moment with God
Would look like
Almost always alone
These days
Surrounded by silence
I wait for heightened perception
Maybe a flash
Of sudden miraculous light
Nothing happens
I am thinking
Of chores to be done
A walk in the park
Baking bread
Inside is a contentment
That politics and current
Events cannot shake
Surrounded by reports
Of death and craziness
I am aware today
Right now
Of increasing light
