“Reflecting on this Night series of oil paintings on prepared paper and considering this year’s theme of belonging, I am reminded of how paradox is often our partner in creative pursuits. These images depict my time during an October residency in New Mexico. Awake both early and late, I often ventured outside into the darkness for an experience of “night” which was intimate and solitary. Even in my aloneness, I felt a sense of companionship in that quiet, velvety space outside the door of my casita. The silence felt comforting and welcoming – even restful, a complement to the brightness of the days.“

This is a lovely painting. The lights of the houses feel welcoming as does the subtler light of the dark night. “You can’t study the darkness by flooding it with light,” says Edward Abbey (Desert Solitaire). I like what you are doing with light. Beautiful.
