Missing you
reminds my heart
it holds a space for you,

and though this moment I would like
to be with you,
to thwart the ache of separation,

the very pain of distance
declares that our togethering
was grace,

and even now this absence
is a sort of treasure,
akin to missing God.

Sally Witt is a Sister of St. Joseph of Baden, Pennsylvania. A historian of religious life, she has also had poems appear in publications such as Spirituality, U.S. Catholic, and Bearings Online. She lives in Ambridge, a town near Pittsburgh that was once the site of a major steel operation.
