“During the pandemic, I painted.

“One of my projects was to journal the pandemic in paint (as well as word). From March until May of 2020 I did a series of 36″ x 36” collages that expressed how it felt to be experiencing phases of the shutdown to avoid spread of COVID-19. As soon as the mood shifted I would set aside one painting and begin another. I never returned to any of the paintings in order to keep them honest to their moment.

“When the state of Texas eased up and encouraged people to get back out in May, 2020, I painted this last and twelfth of the series. The complete series, titled “Spring 2020,” can be found on my website, https://www.sharynrichey.com/works. The project also appears in book form as Spring 2020: A Pandemic Journal in Word and Image.”
