Psalm 45 • 47, 48
Zechariah 2:1-13 ❖ Rev. 3:14-22 ❖ Matthew 24:32-44
Listen, perceive! God’s word is faithful. The psalmist, the prophet Nehemiah, the apostle John, and Jesus prophetically announce the coming of Christ. The Psalmist’s image of Christ is as the handsome, strong, bridegroom-warrior-king who welcomes the faithf illed into his eternal splendor. He bids the bride, dressed in the righteousness of Christ, to forsake their culture, kin, and clan. to dwell with Christ.
Nehemiah calls the faithful of his age and those to come to return to Jerusalem, and to the new Jerusalem, the eternal city of God. John calls the Church of the ages to turn away from its apathetic,s self-righteousness, and importance, laced with anesthetizing luxury, to return to its fervor, for the transformative gospel, which redeems the earth. He summons us to celebrate the first Advent and to fervent expectation of Christ’s second Advent. Finally, Jesus, God incarnate, the Son of Humanity and the Son of God, will return in tumultuous times. The exact time of his return is unknown. Yet, His advent will be so clearly manifested to all that it requires no prophetic announcement. Christ’s return will be a worldwide revelation!
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. In this, our hope rests. And God will not disappoint. Amen!
God in the midst of our ever-increasing fear and dismay of the world’s state. Help us focus Christ’s Advent, then and again! Amen.
¡Escucha, comprende! La palabra de Dios es fiel. El salmista, el profeta Nehemías, el apóstol Juan y Jesús anuncian proféticamente la venida de Cristo. La imagen que el salmista tiene de Cristo es la de un apuesto y fuerte rey, un guerrero que acoge a los que llenos de fe en su eterno esplendor. Este rey, invita a la novia, vestida en la justicia de Cristo, a abandonar su cultura, su familia y su clan para habitar con Cristo.
Nehemías llama a los fieles de su época y a los que vendrán a regresar a Jerusalén y a la nueva Jerusalén, la ciudad eterna de Dios. Juan llama a la Iglesia de todos los tiempos a alejarse de su apatía, su autosuficiencia y su importancia, entremezcladas con un lujo anestésico, para volver a su fervor por el evangelio transformador que redime la tierra. Nos convoca a celebrar el primer Adviento y a esperar con fervor la segunda venida de Cristo. Finalmente, Jesús, Dios encarnado, el Hijo de la Humanidad y el Hijo de Dios, regresará en tiempos tumultuosos. Se desconoce el momento exacto de su regreso. Sin embargo, su advenimiento se manifestará a todos tan claramente que no requerirá ningún anuncio profético. ¡El regreso de Cristo será una revelación mundial!
Cristo ha muerto, Cristo ha resucitado, Cristo volverá. En esto reside nuestra esperanza. Y Dios no nos decepcionará. ¡Amén!
Dios, en medio de nuestro creciente temor y consternación por el estado del mundo, ayúdanos a centrarnos en el Adviento de Cristo, ¡ahora y siempre! Amén.
