Psalm 5, 6 • 10, 11
Amos 3:1-11 ❖ 2 Peter 1:12-21 ❖ Matthew 21:12-22
“Jesus is angry! We do not usually find Jesus losing His temper, but when He arrives at the temple in Jerusalem, He discovers it has become a marketplace, rather than a house of prayer. The temple is the father’s house and a place of prayer. It has become a den of robbers. His righteous anger pours out of Him like a river overflowing its banks. With words of authority, He cleanses the temple of its corruption and curses the fig tree, a symbol of a fruitless Israel.
As if delivering a three-point sermon, Jesus instructs us:
Cleanse your temples of worship!
Be like a fruitful fig tree!
Pray with His authority!
First, Jesus desires that the temples that carry His Holy Spirit, our very bodies, be made ready for His appearance. Thus, cleanse your temples of anything that corrupts worship.
Second, be like a fruitful fig tree. In this season of preparation, we are instructed by daily reading and meditating on the Word of God.
Third, pray with the authority that He gave his disciples. This is not an invitation to “claim it and get it” as in the prosperity gospel, but a faithful exercise of prayer that petitions for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Righteous One, may your lessons prepare me for your arrival.

Jesús está enojado! Por lo general, no encontramos a Jesús perdiendo los estribos, pero cuando llega al templo en Jerusalén, descubre que se ha convertido en un mercado, en lugar de una casa de oración. El templo, la casa del Padre, un lugar de oración se ha convertido en una cueva de ladrones. Su justa ira brota de Él como un río que se desborda. Con palabras de autoridad, Él limpia el templo de su corrupción y maldice la higuera, símbolo de un Israel infructuoso.
Como si pronunciara un sermón de tres puntos, Jesús nos instruye:
¡Limpia tu templo de adoración!
¡Sé como una higuera fructuosa!
¡Ora y pide con Su autoridad!
Primero, Jesús desea que los templos que llevan su Espíritu Santo, nuestros propios cuerpos, estén preparados para su aparición. Por lo tanto, limpia tu templo de cualquier cosa que corrompa la adoración.
Segundo, sé un pueblo fructuoso. En esta temporada de preparación, se nos instruye al leer y meditar diariamente en la Palabra de Dios.
Tercero, ora y pide con Su autoridad. Esta no es una invitación a “reclamarlo y obtenerlo” como en el evangelio de la prosperidad, sino un ejercicio fiel de oración que pide que se haga la voluntad de Dios en la tierra como en el cielo.
Señor, que tus lecciones me preparen para tu llegada.
