1 Samuel 2:1b-10 ❖ Titus 2:1-10 ❖ Luke 1:26-38
In the reading from Luke, the angel Gabriel appears with much good news. He tells Mary of her pregnancy and that her son will be Jesus, the Son of God. He also shares that Elizabeth will conceive a son after believing she was barren.
In this reading, there is immense grief and overwhelming hope. I, like Elizabeth, have my own journey with infertility and pregnancy loss. For years, I lived in a constant season of Advent – waiting for Gabriel, waiting for the good news. When the good news arrived, it was fitting that my daughter was due around Christmas and she arrived during Advent.
As we near the end of Advent, give yourself time to acknowledge your expectations for this season and how God is present with you. Gabriel reminds us that there is space for our grief and our hope because with God nothing is impossible.
God, grant us space to honor our feelings of grief and joy as we prepare for the birth of your son. Amen.
En la lectura de Lucas, el ángel Gabriel aparece con muy buenas noticias. Le dice a María que está embarazada y que su hijo será Jesús, el Hijo de Dios. También le cuenta que Isabel concebirá un hijo después de creer que era estéril.
En esta lectura hay un dolor inmenso y una esperanza abrumadora. Yo, al igual que Isabel, tengo mi propia experiencia con la infertilidad y la pérdida de embarazos. Durante años, viví en una constante temporada de Adviento, esperando a Gabriel, esperando las buenas noticias. Cuando llegaron las buenas noticias, hizo sentido que mi hija naciera alrededor de Navidad y llegó durante el Adviento.
A medida que nos acercamos al final del Adviento, date tiempo para reconocer tus expectativas para esta temporada y para darte cuenta de cómo Dios está presente contigo. Gabriel nos recuerda que hay espacio para nuestro dolor y nuestra esperanza porque con Dios nada es imposible.
Dios, concédenos espacio para honrar nuestros sentimientos de dolor y alegría mientras nos preparamos para el nacimiento de tu hijo. Amén.
